Port Neches, TX

A series of blasts at the Texas Petroleum Company's Port Neches plant destroyed homes and displaced residents as they prepared to celebrate Thanksgiving. Black debris was seen floating in the air hours after the initial blast, and dangerous levels of 1,3-Butadiene a chemical associated with synthetic rubber and plastics processing, lingered for weeks. When inhaled, 1,3-Butadiene can cause headaches, fatigue and even central nervous system damage and fainting, according to the National Library of Medicine.
